14 men/women and a dog started out from Osmaston this morning.
Conditions: snow but +1degree - however extremely icy in places.
Down to the Old Watermill and slowly up the other side with treacherous conditions underfoot. Continued on paths, across fields, with sheep, frisky horses (but no cows - Yes!) they are all safely tucked up for the winter in the barn - see attached.
We stopped eventually for coffee at the church pictured (about 11.45).
Then we decided to not do an additional loop to visit a building of historic interest, so we cut across lanes, fields and paths and arrived at The Shire Horse about 1.30 (yes 1.30 having walked 8 miles - so we only had a very short walk back to cars.)
Once inside the pub, which was nice and warm, we settled down and had a pint - it was that cold that Martin came in the pub and had a pint and a half!
Whilst in the pub it started snowing so we left about 2.30 and walked across fields and icy, at times, lanes to get back to the cars at 3.15pm.
Thanks Griff for taking us out in the snowy conditions for a nice walk. 10.5 miles on Chris's GPS |
