Nomad’s Annual
New Year Walk/Dinner – 14th January 2007

Photo Galleries 70th Anniversary 2004 christmas 2007 New Year

The day dawned bright and clear and everyone was ready for what lay ahead, or were they…………….??

The first drop-off was for Steve’s “hilly” 6.7 miles – (read mountainous) as far as you can be in the Derbyshire Dales.  The coach then continued to Bakewell to drop everyone else off either for Janet’s walk or some time to spend walking around the environs of Bakewell.

My story continues with Steve’s walk as that is the one I chose.

I think everyone would agree with me that we started off at a brisk pace and then got faster!

What I will say in Steve’s defence HE WAS NOT LEADING FROM THE FRONT for some of the time, and it seemed that all and sundry wanted to prove they too could walk as fast if not faster than Steve.

It was a historic walk passing Nine Ladies circles (there were some people camping within a stones throw – generator assisted – for telly or emails perhaps) and then we came upon “The Cork” rock which Steve “popped” in a few easy strides and pictorial evidence was taken but not available for this letter.

A pleasant hour was then spent in the Red Lion before continuing onto Youlgreave, where not wishing to arrive too early, a small extension was added to our walk.

Having arrived at the pub we met up with our fellow Nomads who all seemed to have had a pleasant day.

I hope you will all agree with me that a nice meal was laid on with excellent company and of course the quiz!  Doesn’t it just get to you when you only have a couple left and you just can’t get it.  Thanks to Pauline for providing that little gem to titillate us before…., during… and after… the meal (or did you all manage to finish them a lot faster than my team?

Then it was the Master of Ceremony’s turn to delight us with his witty banter and showering of unsuspecting selected Nomads with awards for a variety of spurious reasons only known to Geoff. Once again thanks Geoff you had us all laughing.

Final thanks to Phil for getting 42 of us up there on the coach and 42 back again.

See you next year?  Hope so!
