The Dove and Manifold Rivers provide some of Derbyshire's finest walking within a half hour drive of Derby. The easy of access to Dove Dale has required extensive management of the valley from Thorp to Mill Dale to cope with the large number of visitors. To appreciate Dove Dale it is necessary to walk the section from the stepping stones to Mill Dale either in the early morning or after tea when most people have gone home.
